How much do/SHOULD used tires typically cost? For a Ford Escape?

Buying a used ford escape 2002, it needs new tires to pass safety. Girl selling it said she found a "good deal" for 300 for the set of 4 tires. I find that price seemingly high. But i don't know much, i've never bought a car before this is my first vehicle! Someone please help me out!

NEVER buy used tires if you care about safety at all. Unsafe tires kill.

$300 for a set of 4 tires is incredibly low. I would NOT trust anything that cheap. Any good new tire is going to cost you around $100 each.

If you can't afford to maintain the car properly, you can't afford to own it.

Tires are priced somewhat deceptively. You pay x amount per tire, then they (usually) charge extra for new valve stems, mounting, balancing, road hazard warranty, tire disposal fee, etc. When asking for the price on a set of tires, make sure you get out the door pricing, which should include everything.

These extra fees typically add up to the cost of another complete tire. So the way I estimate is if tires are advertised at $100 each, or $400 for a set of 4 - plan on spending $500 with all extras included.

Don't buy used tires. The risk is too high to make it worth saving a few bucks.

There are dozens of tires models which will fit on a 2002 Ford Escape, ranging in price from $300 to $600. The $300 priced variety will be very low quality. If you are looking for a decent quality set of tires for your Ford you are looking at a minimum of $400 or so for a set. Don't go cheap.

$300 for a set of new tires is a good price. Many tire shops will not sell used tires due to the liability exposure.
