Clinking noise around tire area when driving?
09 Ford Escape
Sounds like metal on metal when going over raised surfaces and potholes. Noise stops when the brakes are pressed even a little.
Any suggestions?

It could be any a few things. You can probably get a free inspection at a tire store.
CV joint. Those tend to click. In smooth EMPTY parking lot, lightly press the gas, then after a few feet gently turn the wheel to full lock. If you hear clinking that is probably the CV joint. It may stop if you let off the gas.
In same lot, while coasting 15 mph, put the car in neutral and gently swerve back and forth from left to right.
If you hear something then it most likely is a tie rod or control arm.
Could be a ball joint, but they tend to clunk not click.
And could be strut tower is loose or the strut tower mount is worn out, that is rubber bushing type thing a the top of the strut.
Summary, it is hard to tell exactly without getting the wheel of the ground. A shop will put it on a lift and should find the loose item in a few minutes.
Get your brakes inspected
The jack or spare tire are loose in the trunk. Tighten them up

Have a popping noise while driving, typically i would expect something simple like ball joints, tie rods, cv axle etc. But its at an odd time, its randomly while driving straight, no bumps or anything. It kind of sounds like something is hitting the underside of the car like a chunk of mud. Any ideas? Ball joint are new and the axles don't pop or make noises when turning. Someone suggested the engine mount on passenger side. This is the DOHC variation.

I was driving a Ford Truck. Is this how they list all trucks on tickets or did the officer make a mistake. The citation was correct just not the type of vehicle.
