It will have a tow hitch on it.
On a used car the term "towing package" generally just means it has a hitch receiver and a plug for the trailer wires (for the brake lights & turn signals). You can tell that by simply looking at the back of the vehicle.
If you are wondering whether a hitch was factory original as part of a "towing package" option, or an aftermarket hitch put on later, then you can run the VIN through an online vin decoder (easy to find, just google "Ford Vin Decoder") or call a ford dealership and ask them to look it up based on the VIN.
The only significant difference between a factory original "towing package" option and an aftermarket hitch is that a factory original towing package sometimes includes features like a transmission cooler and transmission temperature gauge in the dash. Any qualified mechanic can tell you in a few minutes whether or not your car has an auxiliary transmission cooler. Frankly you won't need this for any trailer you're pulling with a Ford Escape.
Anybody can put a Receiver Hitch on any car. Your car's Tow package came with a SWAY Controller as Standard. It will be a button that says Sway or an Icon that shows 2 wavy lines, like a fishtailing car.

I own this car and find that it's performance on hills is poor even allowing that it is 100kg heavier than the 1998-2004 Ford Focus. E.g. On a hill in 3rd gear with the engine at 1500-2000rpm it can struggle even when my foot is 3/4 down on the accelerator pedal. Has anyone else had this trouble or heard about it with this model?
