Can you paint a white car to black?
I would like to paint my white ford escape to black
how would i go about doing that
i would much rather have a professional doing it
but would it look weird?
Call some body shops for estimates
Expensive because all the details around the doors and everywhere need to be primed and painted black… Not practicle
Leave it alone.
Yes you can.
1. Sand it down to take the clear coat and the first layer of paint off. Use a coarse sandpaper.
2. Apply a thin coat of primer twice, sanding in between each coat. Coarse then fine sandpaper or just fine(will take longer though).
The primer will be a deep color usually Grey or orange, this will the keep the previous color from bleeding through.
3. Apply 2 to 3 coats of paint, sanding in between coats, with 120 grit or 240 grit for a nice finish. The last coat of paint does not get sanded.
4. Apply 2 to 3 coats of clear coat. Let it flash between coats. Flashing is where the paint fuses and is dry enough to go on without dripping but not to dry or it will layer. Flashing takes between 5 minutes to 2 hours depending on the clear coat, it will say.
5. Sand the clear coat with 320 grit wet sand paper, and buff it out, it will shine like a Chrystal.
It's expensive, but cheaper than a shop.
There are so many ways to go about it, depending what kind of shape the original paint is in and the quality you are looking for. Get some free estimates from some auto body shops may give you some ideas and watch some YouTube videos
The easiest cheapest way if the original paint is in good shape all around would be to scuff the whole thing including the jambs with red scotchbrite pads and comet and water and rense real good then after dry mask everything off and spray away.
It used to take two gallons of enamel single stage paint to paint a whole truck without painting the jambs. Black goes further though.
Base Clear paint you would probably need atleast one gallon black base and possibly two gallons of clear
Plus activaters and reducers, you can call automotive paint supply store and ask them prices
I don't know why I was thinking truck? Never mind, you would need half the meterial… By the way clear lays over black nice and smooth for some odd reason.
Here is some real cheap clear that would probably work just fine https://www.ebay.com/...1653872753
Sure! You can paint it any color you want! Your best bet is call around at different body shops and get prices, some places are cheaper! Weather it looks weird depending who paints it and the color of the interior!
You can paint any car any colour you want.
But just be aware that if you really want to change the car from white to black, the whole vehicle should be painted, not just the exterior. By this I mean the area inside the engine bay, the openings you see on the pillars when you open the doors and the hatch, etc. If you don't, you will notice the white paint sticking out like a sore thumb when you open the doors or the hood. To get a paint job like, it costs thousands more than just an exterior paint job because the engine has to be removed, the doors removed, etc., etc., etc.
As mentioned above, if the white colour bothers you that much, sell your current ride and buy a black one.
- You can have any color you want, as long as it's black? What does that mean? I've seen this a couple of times in places. I know Henry Ford said, but what exactly does it mean?

- Matte Black vs Gloss Black Vinyl stripes? So I have a Ingot Silver 2014 Ford Mustang and was wondering what stripes would look the best on it. I heard that gloss shows every little imperfection (scratches) while with matte black, you can't wax them. I'm leaning more on matte black just because I know that seeing the little scratches on the gloss black over time will really irritate me.
