Why did Ford and Chevy stop making mini-vans?
Ford and Chevy only makes big commercial vans like the Ford Transit and Chevy Express.
Chrysler is the only American manufaturer that still makes mini-vans (the Caravan).

The Chevy Ventured was discontinued in 2006 and the Ford Edge is a crossover SUV, not a van.
Demand. People want SUV s. Vans are boring family toting vehicles.
Both Chevrolet and Ford still make minivans. Chevrolet still makes and sells the Venture. Ford makes and sells the Edge. Chrysler never really changed body styles so it just looks like they make move of them. Chrysler was the first to market minivans as the Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager.
There used to never be such a thing as an SUV or crossover. Everybody drove minivans, but they went the way of the Chevette, Vega, Ranchero, and AMC Pacer. Detroit is always changing. They have so many futuristic cars drawn up and ready to go to production in future decades. It must be all the car concept artists always working to improve their last creation.
They didn't sell well and Ford and GM made/make more money on SUVs that they DO sell instead at a similar price point.
Part of the problem with Ford and GM's minivans is that both companies waited far too long to update their products compared to their direct competition. For example, by 2005 that Chevy Venture and later, the Chevy Uplander were both absolute dinosaurs design-wise compared to what Chrysler, Toyota, and Honda offered at the same price at the same time and the Ford Freestar around that same time was also obsolete compared to the competition a couple of years before Ford finally put it out of its misery too. Customers recognized it and it cost GM and Ford a lot of minivan sales. Rather than put forth the effort and money to make a more competitive van, they both threw in the towel on minivans and focused their money on improving other vehicles instead.
Ford and Chevy just morphed their minivans into SUVs.
Like the Edge.
Because of cost
- Why did Ford stop making the 7.3 liter power stroke? I can't comprehend why ford just drop the 7.3 liter and switch to the 6.0 and I heard bad things about the 6.0 and the 6.4 liter. So does anyone know why ford drop the 7.3? I hear the 7.3 are long lasting engines and are bulletproof so if they're such good engines why did they discontinue?
- When did they stop making T-Bucket Ford cars? I was talking to my friend about T-Bucket cars and I was wondering if you knew what year they stopped making them. I looked it up on Google and didn't find anything.
- My radio won't stop scanning, doesn't stop on any station, why? It's a stock 93 Ford Taurus radio, only am fm and cassette, cassettes work but I don't want to use. How can I get my radio to work again? My antennae was loose but I tightened it but it still won't work!
- Are Station wagons related to Mini Vans? I heard that the Ford D186 platform cars are Ford Windstar, Ford Taurus, and Mercury Sable. Because these three cars are on the exact same platform I think the Ford Taurus Station wagon model (1986-2007) is the smaller version of the Ford Windstar minivan. So are Station wagons a more smaller version of minivans (ex. Ford Taurus and Windstar)?
