My car won't reverse?
I went out to my car this morning and tried to back out of my spot, but it wouldn t move. I but it in drive and it rolled forward like normal. I didn't push the gas because I was facing the edge of the lot and didn't wanna end up in a ditch without the ability to reverse. When it's in reverse it seems to act the same as when it's in neutral. Everything else in the car is normal aside from my a.c. Breaking last week, but I wouldn t think that s related.
It's a 2012 ford focus if that matters, I've barely had this thing for a month so I'm really bummed that I have to fix it already. Right now I'm waiting on the mechanic. I didn't give a lot of info, but you you think it sound like an easy fix? Or am I going to be scraping pennies off the floor to pay for this?
It might be something as simple as the shift linkage, or it might be that a previous owner destroyed the reverse gear.
You must be bored waiting for the mechanic, who will have a much better answer then you could get here.
It might be the shift linkage. Try going from park to neutral then reverse.
Newer cars do not have linkages anymore. This sounds like a bad transmission range switch or sensor, shifter module or a bad shift solenoid or solenoid pack. Pray that the transmission is not shot.
Could be you left the parking brake on or drove with the parking brake on. Sometimes it will let the car go forwards but not backwards.
I think you may have bought a lemon which had patchwork done to it that would make it appear to work fine just long enough to get you out of the seller's hair.
If it's a Ford dual clutch transmission there's a class action going on… Sounds like the transmission module may be shot.
- My 2000 Ford Taurus won't shift from neutral to reverse or neutral to park? Its curently in neutral but the steering colum shifter will go down to drive or drive 2 and will go back to neutral, but then it stops so I can't back up or park the car.since it doesn't go into park, I can't even take the keys out of the ignition. Any ideas?
- What causes a car to jump in reverse when all forward gears are fine? I once owned a 1967 Ford Mustang (sure wish I still had it!) with a 289 ci w/2 bbl and factory 3 speed on the floor. I bought it used with 100k miles. It acted fine in forward gears but when I put it in reverse, It "jumped" as long as I was moving. I changed out the clutch and pressure plate twice but it didn't help. Could it have been that the fly wheel needed balancing (by grinding) or something else?
- I have 1998 Ford Windstar as of now when I put in drive/reverse it won't move. It just revs. The car starts up fine? It started while I was driving down the road and I pressed the gas to go a little faster and my rpm went up to 4 and went down. I have an automatic too. There's no burnt smell in my transmission fluid stick/tank. I just left the gas station before this happened if that helps. Any ideas? Someone suggest my second/reverse band and I have never heard of it.
- Why In order to get my car to reverse I have to put it on Neutral? I have a 2004 Ford Focus SE The problem i recently started having was my car won't reverse unless i put it on Neutral and when i put it on drive it won't go forward unless Its on the number 2. I was told it was my transmission but i got it rebuilt almost 2 years ago. Is there anybody who can help me figure out what's wrong with it?
