Is my alternator big enough to run my 1000watt sound system?

So I'm wondering if my alternator has enough power to run my sound system without any problems.

I have a 2007 ford edge and i believe the alternator is 150amp

I'm looking to run two class D amplifiers, they are:

JL Audio - XD600/1 - 600 Watt RMS (SUB)
Rockford Fosgate - R400-4D - 400 Watt RMS (SPEAKERS)

So total wattage is 1000

Do you think ill be able to run these or should i only run the one to the sub or
should i upgrade my electrical?

Absolutely, there are several people doing 1000 watts RMS on a 130A - 160A alternator with no problem.

First, get a DMM and test the voltage on the battery. If it's below 12V, then get a replacement.

If not, your amp will go into the protect mode until you can provide it with adequate voltage. If you need to replace the battery, I would recommend XS Power. Because you want a healthy battery to run the system. Not a battery that is giving birth or in pain.

You have a lot of things going your way.
For one - that's a big stock alt.
Two, 1000w rms really isn't a ton of power.
Three -- Those are both efficient amps and as 1000w systems go, the current draw will be on the low side.

With all that in mind, still - if you blast it non stop with the gains and bass boosts cranked way up it will certainly be stressful for the alt.
If things are adjusted correctly and you don't crank it constantly there's a good chance that alt will survive for several years.

I'm running ~1500w rms in a dodge with a stock 160A alt and it shows very few signs of weakness (a little headlight dimming at high volume).

  • Is a 130 amp alternator good for a 1200w system? I have a 1999 Ford Taurus SE and I recently looked up stock alternators to see how many amps my alternator was putting out. Everywhere I look i see 130 amps and I wanted to know if that is good (higher end, lower end, or average). And if you could, give me an example of how many amps are bad, and how many amps would be really good for a 1200w system.
  • What sound system should I add to my 2003 Ford Mustang 2 door, 6 cylinder, 3.8L? I don't know much about cars and audio systems but I was looking to add a good audio system to my car. I basically want the car sound to be a lot louder, but sill be clear. I also want a stronger bass. Basically I want the car to be able to shake if I want it to. I looked into the Mach 1000 audio system but not sure if that s good or what to get with it if you even do that. Like I said, I'm not a car literate person.
  • Does the 101a Sync 3 Package in the Ford Mustang upgrade the sound system? I know it adds 3 extra speakers but is the sound system or sound quality any better than the base sound system?
  • 2001 Ford KA sound system upgrade? I've just bought a ford KA and want to get a sound upgrade for it, although I know nothing about cars. I don't want to get a subwoofer but I don't know what my other options are. I've been looking at stereos but will this actually improve the sound or is it just there to look cool? Any help/ suggestions appreciated
