I need help. My 2008 Ford Edge SUV is on the side of the road and the engine and transmission has been destroyed. What should I do?

The mechanic guy said it wouldn't be worth to fix it… Should I tow to my house or leave it there? Should I sell it now or what? City Code Enforcement don't want dead cars in home driveways so what do I do?

Have it towed to a junk yard.

Define destroyed

Find a scrap yard that will take it for parts.

Sell it to a scrap buyer who can haul it away.

If it has over 200K miles, let the junkyard have it. If not, tow it home and ask another mechanic to look at it. Did you run it hot or out of oil? The chances of both going bad at the same time is near Zero. It also matters if you like the car, the prices you got were really high. The City can't do anything if your Stickers are current.

Stop buying fords.

Have it towed to the nearest auto salvage yard and sell it to them.

Get a second opinion from another shop

'bo' is correct - you should get another quote from another mechanic, $7,000 for an engine and transmission is a little bit pricy.

'geo' is also correct - it's improbable that both engine and transmission failed at the same time - which means either you are being scammed by a mechanic, or you are trolling on here.

I would definitely figure out a way to get the vehicle to a wrecking yard or back to your house As soon as possible - otherwise it can be towed by the city or county, and they can charge you for it.

As far as how you proceed after that, it's pretty much up to you. If the vehicle has high miles, then other components like suspension, brakes, steering, etc. Are probably all getting worn out as well, so it may or may not be worth dumping money into the engine and/or transmission.

On the other hand, if you own the vehicle, and it can be fixed relatively cheaply (even if it's a few bucks) it may be preferable to buying another questionable vehicle and having a car payment.

If it's on the side of the road and unless the mechanic went to the car how did you determine the engine and transmission are destroyed? I find it unusual both would go out at the same time.
