Ford 2002 superduty 4x4 esof problems?

I have a 2002 F250 superduty. The esof does not work at all… But my first question is… I'm under the truck i turn the transfercase drive shaft to the front diff… Only one front wheel axle turns, should the other?

No, the differential is not full-time drive so it won't be turning on both sides. Imagine it like the back differential. If they both turned that same and you made a turn, the "outside tire" would turn 3 times and the "inside tire" would turn 3 times. The "inside tire" only goes about 1/3 of the distance so you don't want them to turn the same. You'd rip the inside tires up in no time. Even "limited slip" differentials only engage when they need to, oftentimes activated by tapping the brake. Unlike "Posi-Trac."

The Electronic Shift on the Fly 4x4 system does not "lock in" on Ford Trucks. I'm on my third for truck and I have always found this annoying to say the least.

Basically the front hub won't engage until it detects a "slip". Which is usually too late and you get stuck or slide off the road. The ESOF is designed for people who dry on a combo of dry/wet roads.

The best thing to do is get out and lock in the hubs manually. This to me is just a plain dumb design since my 1988 chevy truck locks it's hubs in with ESOF. I believe it is fords way of saving warranty claims when people destroy the front axles.

FYI, there are kits to change them to a true ESOF hubs or "auto hubs".

Also, these trucks can have issues with the Hub not disengaging.
