Do Vehicle companies lower A trucks/SUV towing capacity for safety reasons?

I have a 1999 Ford F-250 5.4L (Yes I know it sucks) I saw the towing capacity was at 5,000 pounds seems kinda low I've seen videos of people towing 25 foot trailers with this truck. I feel like they lower the capacity down just to be safe and cover their selves which is smart just seeing if I'm able to tow more

I just did a quick google and found specs ranging from 7,000lbs to 13,500lbs for that model. Heck, my Nissan Frontier can tow 6,300lbs. I'd check again.

Hi for safety reasons the weight of what you tow needs to be less than the weight of the
Truck itself usually 3/4 of the weight of the truck. Some do tell you if a tacho is fitted it can two a higher weight. You need to check with a Ford Dealer about this for safety sakes.

There are A LOT of variables: One or two axle trailer, bumper hitch or gooseneck, the nature of the load (e.g. A horse trailer can experience changes in the center of gravity as the horses move around).

When you're looking at a rig on the road, there's a lot you don't know: upgraded cooling system or not, ditto for the transmission and differential.

The rating relates to many parts on the vehicle. Engine, transmission, differential, suspension, the cooling system (radiator, trans cooler), the hitch.

Class 3 hitches are most common. They will be rated for 6000lbs. Installed on a truck that can tow 10,000 equals a truck that is rated for 6,000.

That year f250 with 5.4 is at least 7,000 and up to 13,000 I think. A friendly local ford dealer can look up your vin number and tell you what your truck was originally rated for. A shop that specializes in towing can help you to improve it's ability. You can search the web for tow capacities and find published info.

It is all relative. I live in a free state and you can tag a vehicle for what ever load rating you want. I have hit the scales with a 3/4 ton Chevy with 3600 lbs in the back pulling a 12,000 lb trailer. Obviously you can't drive it like a sports car.
