Car seat in front of a small truck? And a truck with a bench seat in back?

I just found out that I'm pregnant. I drive a 2002 Ford Ranger extended cab and there's no way a car seat will fit in the back of it at all. Could I put a car sear in the front of it with the airbag off? Has anyone tried this?

My boyfriend drives a 1999 Ford F350 crew cab. The back seat looks like this:

Could we put a car seat in that?

Usually if we go anywhere all together we use his truck because mine is too small for him to be comfortable in because he's a tall guy, but for the off chance we all need to go somewhere together in my truck I suppose he could drive with the baby in the front and I could ride in the back because I'm small enough. If absolutely necessary I'll sell my truck and buy an SUV, but if there's a way to make baby work with the trucks… I want to find it lol.

Sounds like it would be easier to get a different car. I wouldn't want to ride in the backseat if we were to all go somewhere together. Lol

As for the question, While it's legal, and the airbag won't be on, I wouldn't do it.

I had a 1998 Chevy s10, car seat in front with air bag turned off. This is legal.

EDIT we drove the s10 with baby on passenger end, me in the middle. You can't install a car seat on those half backseats.

In the crew cab - if it's a full backseat like a car you can put a car seat back there. We live in farm country, and plenty of babies are riding in their car seats in pickup trucks.

Just make sure the air bag is turned off.

You might want to start saving money for baby #2, and you really have a need for another vehicle.

No this is not a good idea for safety regardless of air bag off. Swap one for a more family orientated vehicle.
The baby should be in the middle of a back seat or on the safe side closest to the gutter/path.
It will also be easier for you getting him in and out safely.
