Could needing an oil change cause the Service Engine Soon light to come on?
I have a 2000 Saturn SL2 and I've had it for about 2 years now. I bought it used from a good car dealerships. I have never had any issues with the car except a bad windshield wiper arm, that was fixed. I recently got the car fully tuned up in february. I was supposed to get an oil change at 160,300 miles, but I couldn't afford that change until now. I'm now at 170,280 miles. Could this over lack of an oil change have caused my "service engine soon" light to come on? And would it be anything MAJOR if it was just the "service engine soon" light and not the "check engine" light? I'm Really worried and starting to stress and I called a mechanic, who I'm waiting for a call back now.
Check to see if your oil is empty or super low. You can get oil from pep boys and fill it up for now if it is. I had a Saturn that I went months without oil change and I blew engine because of it.
The check engine can also be something non related and sometimes not a big deal.

- Why did the change oil light just come on in my car after an oil change? We have a 2016 Ford Escape and we just had the oil changed about 1000 miles ago at a Fox Ford near us. The oil light was not on when we went there and was not on after we left. It just came on now with a message saying that the oil needed to be changed. So what is causing this? I know the light doesn't need to be reset because it was not on before the oil change or afterwards until now.
