Car shut off and won't start again?
Okay yesterday I was going 60 on the freeway and I come to an off ramp with the car squeaking and I get to a stop and when the light turned green I let go of the brake and nothing! Funny thing is all my electronics work but when I tried to crank it over nothing! So I pushed the car to a gas station and try starting it again, and nothing! Just a click. But only one click… So I call a friend and have them take me to my house to get my wife's car and before I left it I looked under the hood and the negative battery terminal was blazing hot! So I left it to cool and before it shut down my oil level gauge dropped all the way down to low. I figured I hadn't put oil in which I haven't because no money and it read that it had some oil so I figured it was okay… But I called one of my old mechanic friends and he said it could've froze from no oil but I can't tell you anything about these cars because it's to new for him. I own a 1996 Ford crown Victoria with 134, xxx thousand miles. But the crazy thing is that all that day my car read that it had oil… So I lost. I figured it could be the Alt. But then the guy I bought it from says l said he replaced a starter. But I think that the guy that did that didn't know what he was doing because I bought it with a system and he had his power cable and negative cable touching which admitted sparks so I think it could be faulty wiring. Also I bought a few quarts and poured it and nothing happened. Same think just that click and that's it.
I had the same problem with my car. It would intermittently shut off for no apparent reason. Turned out to be the ignition switch, not the starter.
Take it to Pep Boys. They'll give you the best price.
- Why does my car shut off with too much pressure on the steering wheel? I have a 1990 Ford Tempo. I replaced the ignition to starter cable on it, as it would randomly shut off when taking a hard right due to corrosion on it. However, it still randomly shuts off when too much pressure is applied to the steering wheel. I was suspecting that maybe it is the ignition switch, but I don't have the money to go to a mechanic at the moment. Has anyone else had this problem? And how was it fixed?
- Why did my car start and die when put into gear? Now it won't start at all? It's a cold winter day (below zero) Car started right up! I let it run for about 2 minutes, I put it in gear and it just died. I figured it's cold out, not real surprising, but when I tried to start it again, it won't start! Turns over fine but engie won't start! Any ideas? 2003 Ford Taurus 3.0L
- My car door won't stay shut in the cold? I have a 2005 Ford Taurus. Last year, and a couple of times so far this year whenever I open the door, and try to shut close. It won't close or shut completely, sometimes when its very cold, if your on the inside you can push the door(s) open without touching the door handle. I was told to use WD-40. I was wondering where to spray it, and if there's anything better out there?
- Bubbling/Gurgling sound a for a few seconds after car is shut off? Ok, so, I have a 2007 Ford Taurus SE. I just had to have the head gaskets replaced due to the engine overheating and blowing them, the car has been running fine since, but, now, any time I go 15 miles or more, and return home, for a few seconds after I shut off the car I can hear a Bubbling/Gurgling sound behind the glove box on the passenger side. I have read and some say it might be trapped air… Any ideas? Is this a serious problem?
