Why does my ford bronco keep turning off as soon as I change gears?

If it is a stick shift then you are releasing the clutch too quickly and it's causing the engine to kill. Try letting it out slower. It could also be your clutch is bad I would have that checked out first. If that's not the issue there's an issue inside the transmission.

The only way it'll "turn off" is if you do something with the key in the ignition. Do you mean, "the engine dies out?" I pity the poor mechanics that have to try understanding idiots just like you.

It could be anything from a wiring problem or something wrong with the clutch

  • Why can't i change gears on my manual transmission car? I have a 2004 ford ranger 2.3 4 cylinder with manual transmission. I can turn it on but I'm not able to shift gears. Is it the clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder or transmission?

  • 2001 Ford ZX2 seems like it doesn't want to change gears sometimes? It seems like maybe a few times per week or so, it starts straining as if it can't switch into the next gear. Eventually it switches over and goes days or a week or so without doing it again. Then it comes back, goes away, etc. The whole transmission was rebuilt just about 2-3 years ago.
  • Ford Edge Change Engine Oil Soon? My Ford Edge (2014, 3.5 L) displayed a warning "Change Engine Oil Soon." I last had the oil changed in December 2014. I don't drive much and have gone only 861 miles. I'm thinking of leaving the oil change for another few hundred miles, maybe until the autumn. Should this be OK? Any comment or suggestions?
