What is an average price to replace a heater door actuator control on a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria?
The heat/ac on the car only puts out hot air. This started after there was a clicking noise behind the instrument panel. Then nothing but hot air comes out, even though the ac compressor runs. What would be an average price to replace the part - heat door actuator control? This part runs about $60, but is back in behind the instrument panel and will take about 6 - 8 hours to replace.
You'd be lucky to get it done for $800 and the risk of them screwing something up is high. You can manually turn the door to hot or cold by going in through the glove box and removing the airbag.
This happened on my 2007 MGM with auto control (EATC). If your 2002 FCV EATC design is similar. You may be able to use the self-test software force the actuator to reset, although this only worked for a day or two at a time for me before heat would blast again. Eventually this reset trick stopped working and I had to replace the actuator, but by then I had the new part in hand.
Try this: Press the OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously, release, then press the AUTO button within two seconds. A self-test begins (spinning LCD light) and trouble code(s) are displayed. Look online later and confirm the codes. At the completion of self-test, I was sometimes able to make the crazy heat go away when exiting self test mode by pressing the windshield DEFROST button. This erases all codes from DTC memory, and resets that actuator.
The actuator is pretty easy to replace but you have to pull the dash out a foot or two to reach it. You would need one of those mini ratcheting box wrenches, 5/16", to get the screw under the frame closest to the front of the car. Pulling the dash was surprisingly easy, just time consuming. The only mistake I made was not detaching the steering wheel properly and just lowering it instead, broke a little clock spring inside the wheel so the whole upper steering column had to replace. Ended up costing me the whole $800 I was trying to save doing it myself.
- Where can I get a door actuator? I have a Mercury Villager 2002. I need to replace a door actuator but unfortunately Ford does not make the part any more. I do not know how to work on cars and to find things at junk yards. How can I go about getting the part? My mechanic says he can't find the part…
- Changed ford ka heater control valve. Still blowing hot air? My car was blowing got air constantly when off or on cold dial. Iv changed the heater control valve twice and now it still blows hot but then does work at times (blows cold on cold). What now?
- How to unplug a car door actuator? I have a 98 ford falcon and the central locking doesn't work, the locks automatically go down and up again. The same happens if I do it manually. I think it is an actuator problem. How do I unplug the actuator so that I can manually lock the doors (I'm ok being able to just manually lock them so don't want to replace the actuators).
- How to replace the Stop Light Switch in an '86 Ford LTD Crown Victoria? How do I replace the Stop Light Switch in an '86 Ford LTD Crown Victoria?
