AU Ford 2002 How to start after running out of fuel?
I was recently low on fuel and was not to worried about running out as this has happened before. The last time I ran out of fuel (decades ago) cars had carburetters and points dizzy caps etc. Add a bit of fuel in the tank and down the carby and your good to go. How to you start a Ford AU Falcon 2002 6cyl, that is out of fuel. Will it start if you just fill the tank
Added (1). Thanks for all your answers they were all winners to be fair I chose one randomly The car is fueled up now. I did not realise the damage I could do to the fuel pump. Thank's again you all saved me a more expensive fix than just filling up.
If your vehicle has an electric fuel pump that is located in the gas tank, you should NEVER EVER let it run out of fuel. The gas in the tank helps to keep the fuel pump cool. If you let the tank get empty the pump can over heat and stop working. You would then have to replace the fuel pump. For now, try refilling the tank with gas and let the key stay on for about 30 seconds before you try to actually engage the starter.
If your car has a mechanical pump then after refilling, crank on it for a bit to get the pump to get the gas back into the system.
Add fuel and turn key on. You will hear a cliking and when it gets muffled or it stops the fuel is up to engine. Do not pump gas peddle. Just turn over and wait.
Put at least 5 gallons of gasoline in the tank. Then cycle the key from OFF to ON for ten seconds with out cranking the motor over. Repeat that 4 times. That will pressurize the fuel lines. Go ahead and start it after the key cycles.
Usually you just add fuel, and start it up. It might be necessary to crank it for a while to bring the fuel pressure up to the point where it will start. Sometimes it is necessary to get the vehicle on level ground.
If it won't start, you may have burned out the fuel pump - or the filter may have become clogged (fuel tanks can often build up crud at the bottom, and running it out of fuel will allow that crud to get into the filter).
- Why is my '98 Ford windstar is running rough after a tune up? I changed out the plugs and wires and it ran good for a day or two but has a lot of hesitation at lower rpms but if I speed up it goes away. Also have a gas smell in my air conditioning when I'm stopped but not while driving. Can anyone help? I'm tired of putting money in this thing.
- 2003 Ford Ranger Won't Start after Fuel Pump install? About 2 weeks ago, I replaced the fuel filter and all 6 spark plugs to do some regular maintenance and upkeep. 3 days ago, hard to start. Had to turn key a couple times to prime- then would fire right up. Replaced fuel pump yesterday, now I have no start at all. It just cranks, and barely starts to turn over, only to bog out. When it starts to bog out, i tap the gas to try and get my RPMS up, but I have no throttle response at all.
- 2002 Ford Focus won't start after driving on the highway for 15 minutes? I have a 2002 Ford Focus LX with about 130,000 miles on it. If I drive it on the highway for about 15 minutes, when I finally turn the car off, it won't start back up unless I get a jump or if I let it sit for about 2 hours. I've gotten a new alternator a new battery and new battery terminals (old ones were corroded). Can someone please tell me what's wrong with my car, I'm tired of wasting money on things that don't need to be fixed.
