Would a 1983 Ford LTD Crown Victoria coupe be a nice first car?

Would a 1983 Ford LTD Crown Victoria coupe be a nice first car? - 1

Too expensive to keep it running.

If it is decent shape - Yep. Lots of room, a real workable back seat, enough power, big trunk, parts are easy to fine & car is easy to work on. My two older boys learned how to drive in my 1992 Crown Vic eight passenger station wagon.

No. Poor fuel economy, poor safety rating, and lots of maintenance because of it's age.

I mean, they were decent cars, 30 years ago…

That's the sort of car you buy as a second car. As a project, for weekend cruising. Buy something newer as a first car or a daily driver.

  • Was the 1979 to 1991 Ford LTD crown Victoria S (p72) sedan available to everyone (General public) or only restricted to fleets? I'm fully aware that the Ford LTD crown Victoria P72 was mostly sold to fleets (law enforcement agencies and taxi services). But was this car in the P72 (S) trim available to everyone or only fleets.
  • 1983-1988 Ford Ranger for first car? Hello I'm looking for a first car and have been thinking about many different cars. I like old cars and I have a 1966 vw beetle project that I'm working on. For my first car I thought a mid 80s Ford ranger would be a good truck to get because it is a small truck that gets good gas mileage and I wouldnt have to work on it all the time. I thought it would be good to have so I could haul stuff and carry vw parts and tow my beetle. Any thoughts?
