Why are Americans afraid of the Profit motive in Capitalism?

Added (1). Saving, Wall Street, 401(K), IRA, Roth IRA, Stocks, CDs, Investing are good ways to have residual income. Profit, Return On Investment. These are key to a safe, worry free retirement. But if you want to live off of Social Security and Big Government, go ahead and be broke and poor.

Added (2). These are great companies: Walmart, Ford, 3M, Apple, MS, ExxonMobil, Sunoco, Boeing. Invest in them and save the Profit Dollars, Pounds, Euros!

They ain't, it's the socialists who think profit is a dirty word but if there's no profit there's no incentive!

Not me.

I prefer to think those who provide goods and services work in a competitive environment and view profit as an incentive.

Otherwise, bad goods and bad services.

Only those who want what others who do work have without the work.

If profit was the only way to motivate people then how is it that so many people from wealthy backgrounds go on to achieve their own individual successes? Why didn't they lay around in the sun all day on Daddys money?

Socialism is the only way to get the best out of the people of the world because only socialism can provide the environment where everyone can succeed, not just the few, so why are people like you so afraid of that scenario? Is is because you have come from a privileged environment that you don't welcome the competition?
