Point gap can cause a misfire if it is too wide. Too small and it will run fine up to the point where the fiber black wears and the points don't open at all. I set them by eye to open about.050" or a little less. Then I use point cam lube on the fiber block/point cam to prevent wear and the gap closing up over time. NEVER use feeler gauges to set gap. This leaves residue on the point faces and they arc and self destruct. New points should be cleaned with alcohol or electrical contact cleaner spray to get all residue off the point faces. I never use a dwell meter.

31-34 degrees unless it's a Prestolite ignition system which is 38 degrees. You don't even need to touch the points. But make sure you use lube on the rubbing block cam.
