Union Pasific Car Shopping?

So my father is an engineer for UP, 2-3 years now. I know it depends on the state, but how much of a discount is the "Supplier Discount"? I've heard up to 15%? I live in TX. I don't want to ask the dealer at Ford or Kia, i was told to see what's the lowes i can get the final sale and THEN show them the UP discount offer, and they have to lower it.

Has anyone used their UP discount at a dealership? Is it 15% or 1%?

Your dad's benefits department can tell you what the discount is. Also, see if they can arrange pricing. Some companies work out standard pricing deals with manufacturers including the discount. In other words, once you do your haggling for the model you want, go in and see the benefits reps and see if they have a manufacturer's purchase program for that model, since they offer a discount. You may even come out a little further ahead this way. If not, at least you will know the discount amount (from the benefits dept.)

I have bought 4 cars over the years using that discount. Don't worry about making a deal on the price. The price we get is lower than a Ford employee can get. Read the plan rules on the UP website. You HAVE to tell them you're using the plan beforehand. They have to show you the invoice with the plan price on it. Whoever told you they have to lower the price from the deal you make is wrong. The plan price is set and will be better than any deal you make.

The UP discount is from MSRP not added to a already discounted price.

  • What car should I get for my first car? I'm 16 and about to buy my first car. I'm thinking about getting a 94 Ford Ranger (120k miles) with lifted suspension, off road tires, and a prerunner bumper. Would this be a reliable car throughout my high school years? Should I get that or should I just get a 2 door coupe?
  • Is getting a lot of miles on a car actually bad for the car if the car is well taken care of? Back story: I have been using my car to visit a guy who lives about an hour away from me, and my mother has said that I "don't need to be putting all those miles" on my car. It is a well-taken care of Ford mustang with about 125,000 miles on it, and I have not noticed any issues at all. Cars are meant to be driven, in my mind. Is putting mileage on a care actually a bad thing, or is mother probably pulling an overprotective mother of an adult child?
