Trying to start my car, all I hear is clicking noise when turning the key, what's the problem?

The car is a Ford Mondeo 1.8 lx 2001 134000 miles on the clock.

Over the last couple of days my car has been struggling to start. Today I jumped in only to find this issue (the clicking sound) I've just recently bought the car so I'm not too sure if it's the battery or the starter or even something else. If someone could shed some light that would be great!

when I got the car 2 days ago, I did drive it for an hour or so but it hasn't be driven properly since then. Could it just simply be a bad battery? If it's any help, the car was MOT'd on the day I bought it with no advisories.

Most likely the battery is shot. If you get a jump start you can test the alternator output with a cheap multimeter. See link.

It sounds like a battery to me.

BATTERY.

Battery.
Last idea will be distributer

If the battery looks old, replace it. Did you remove the battery terminals and clean them?
If the battery doesn't do it, sounds like a bad starter solenoid.

Flat or battery stuffed.
