What size socket is needed to change the catalytic converter on a 2005 ford taurus?

Lots plus a socket for the O2 sensors… Why would you need one? P0420 on these is usually a vacuum leak at the PCV elbow, but I'm sure you checked the obvious first…

The cars I have worked on took a 17 mm for the bolts on the flange.

Get under the car, it most likely says on the bolts.

Gonna go out and buy you one special just for the job? Let me guess, You were that kid that sat for hours trying to get the square peg in the round hole when you were in kindergarten, Off the top of my head I'd say you wouldn't even know which end of a screwdriver to use

  • Will a catalytic converter for a 6cyl 3.0 work on my 4 cyl 2.3? I own a 2004 Ford ranger with a 2.3L engine, but I wasn't able to find any catalytic converter for a good price, so I was wondering if a catalytic converter for a 3.0L would work fine on my car, since Catalytic converters for that engine are more widely available, thus cheaper. Btw I need the rear Catalytic converter, thanks
  • Socket size to remove starter? I have a 2004 Ford ranger 2 wheel drive with a 3.0 6 cylinder. I was able to get the 2 mounting bolts on the bottom with a 13 mm. However the socket set I have only goes to 14 mm. What size do I need to have to get the last bolt located on top near the solenoid?
  • On a 2000 ford ranger, will driving it without a catalytic converter cause valve issues? My ford ranger has had the cat removed (not by me!) and it is causing an O2 sensor code, of course, and an overly rich exhaust and poor fuel milage. Now, I know it needs fixed and I will when I get the time to get it to a muffler shop, but my question is, will driving it for a little while right now cause any valve trouble or any damage elsewhere?
  • Do I need a catalytic converter? I have a 2000 Mustang Ford V6 3.8L I looked under the car and I did not see 1 catalytic converter, I saw some pictures supposedly I has 4? But mine just has 2 long pipes that just go from the engine to the mufflers and then exhaust pipe. It smells like gasoline when I start up the car. Will this damage anything?
