Small Block Chevy in Ford Ranchero?

First off, this isn't any offense to Ford guys, I'm on a tight budget and everything for Chevy is cheaper. I'm thinking about getting this 1961 Ford Ranchero, chopped, bagged. It's really cheap but doesn't have a motor or trans. I don't know Ford's at all, but I know a lot about older GM stuff. And I have this 327 Small Block sitting in my garage with a TH350 trans. I'm wondering if the 1961 Ranchero can fit the small block Chevy and the TH350. And if I'd need to modify the driveshaft, weld in a crossmember to fit the transmission, etc.

The small block Chev has been used for so many transplants because it is small and versitile. But you will have to make a number of adaptations. This would be the same though if you decided to us a ford 289 or 302

Your going to need to do a lot of work engine mounts tranny mount drive shaft electrical cooling also is it a floor shiftier or a column shift it can be done but it is a lot of work

There's room enough to mount the 327 but you will need to do lots of modifications and fabricating to get it in there. Your biggest problem will be enough cooling and room for the exhaust manifolds. The transmission will also require plenty of mounting mods along with a different length driveshaft. You should also change out the rear end to handle the power of the 327 versus the original 105 h.p. I6. You will grenade that weak rear differential with the V8. It can be done if you have the time and the money. Do allot of measuring before you even attempt this to make sure everything will actually fit.

"I'm on a tight budget"

The engine bay on these cars is real tight with a V8 in there, due to the coil springs and shocks sharing this space. My 63 Ranchero 260 V8 has precious little room to spare.

Engine swaps are RARELY cheap, and come with a lot of headaches, so I wish you luck on this one. As stated by others, there will be a lot of mods needed to git-'er-done.

Not my money, not my car. But seems like a bad mix.
Same as putting Boss 302 in a El Camino. YUK!
