Why do people want 4x4 trucks?
^title.
I don't understand why people want 4x4 instead of 2wd trucks.
Half of my friends have 2wd trucks and the other half have 4x4.
I have a 2004 Arizona Beige Ford Ranger w/sidestep 2wd truck and I don't need the 4x4. I gone muddin just fine in a 2wd, not successful in 4x4 (my friends let me try theirs).
Some people go on trails for different purposes and the 4x4 helps with grip and getting over obstacles.
it also helps with traction on snow where trucks do really badly in.
4wd becomes 4 wheel slide in ice, and doesn't help much in snow, but does great on gravel and dirt or pavement. If you live in the country, or on a hill, the extra drive power helps. If you're hauling something, the extra traction helps. If you're just sporting around town, I'd much rather have FWD than RWD, AWD or 4WD. For better handling, where the weight is… When I'm running with no cargo.
I will go one step further. Why do US male children REQUIRE a truck at all? This is a heavy duty, work related, specialized equipment that is heavy, carries two or three people, gets horrid miles per gallon and is not meant to transport kids to and from school. And you know, there are more serious and important matters than "looks" when driving.
4x4 IS significantly better in sand / snow / mud. If you are never driving in those situations, then you just want it for bragging rights, and your vehicle is slower and less economical than a 2WD version.
So if you are a farmer / hunter / fisherman / skier, or live in a place where it snows a lot, then 4WD makes perfect sense.
If you just drive around town or on a clear highway, but need to haul stuff or tow a trailer, then a 2WD is what you need.
If you just drive to work, why are you driving a truck anyway? Get a car.
To **** people up
Some people have a legitimate need for a 4x4,… Others, because they think it looks " macho"… Or "tough"… In the " snow " country they are great,… But just for show, I ' d rathher have a nice ' litttle sports coupe'
You don't do much " mudding " in a 2 wh drive. Ranger,… I ' ve had them
To compensate what's inside the pants hehehe
Traction.
- Why are there more 70s and 80s chevy trucks than fords around today? I'm not trying to say ones better just a question did chevy make more than ford or something? I see alot of old chevys driving around my area and some fords but i never see dodges at all maybe one or two every once in a wile
- How is fording a river in a manual 4x4 different to an automatic 4x4? I had forded a river with a LR Defender before and usually stuck it in Low 2nd gear and push through the river at 2-3k rpm. Luckily I never got stuck in the middle but I remember reading somewhere that it is easier to ford rivers with an automatic gearbox due to the lack of clutch housing? Since automatic gearbox won't really stall in the middle of the river, would it be okay to shift it in reverse if stuck?
- Want new headlights for my car, don't want the blue tint to the lights? I have a 2006 Ford Fusion I want to get new headlights I don't really know the difference between halos HIDs or LEDs or if there even is a difference. I'm looking at replacing the whole headlights not just the bulbs but I notice some newer headlights have the blue tint to them I want to stay away from that.
