Steering Wheel Locks when A/C turns on?

I have a Ford Ranger and I having a problem with the Steering Wheel and the A/C. When ever I'm driving and I turn on the A/C, my steering wheel gets really hard almost to lock. It also makes a squeaking noise, what's wrong with it?

The AC and power steering are both driven by the same belt on the front of the engine. That's become worn or loose, so when it's trying to turn the AC and the steering pump, it slips. (That's the noise you hear)

Check, and probably replace, that accessory drive belt.

I suspect what's happening is… The compressor is frozen, which keeps the belt from turning the power steering pump, which makes the steering hard. The squeaking noise may be the pulley slipping on the belt.

Does the A/C put out cold air? If it does, I'm wrong, and Lanab has the right answer.

Yes the air is cold, Thanks for your answers

It sounds like the AC compressor is seized.
