Should I keep my truck or buy a different car?

I'm 17 and I just got my first truck. It's a 1995 Ford F150 4WD (5.0 V8). It's sitting in the garage right now because I can't afford to register, insure, and fix it (it needs quite a bit of work). I didn't buy it. My dad gave it to me. I absolutely love this truck but, I think it'll use too much gas. I had my grandfather's truck for a few days and I think it got pretty decent mileage (Ford Ranger) but, I did have a lot of things to do and places to go (so I had to put gas in it a couple times). I feel like if I were to get rid of the truck and get something else but, I feel like I'd regret it. What should I do? The 4WD is nice for the winter. I really love my truck but, I feel like it'll use too much gas. I've been thinking about selling the truck (and saving up more money) and getting something more fuel efficient. Maybe like an AWD sedan. I plan on going far away to college and I'll need something with better gas mileage. What should I do?

Added (1). I will NEVER make payments on any vehicle.

Added (2). I'm friends with one of the previous owners and he said if I want to sell, he might be interested.

You are correct, It will use too much gas. If you want a truck, sell that gas hog and get a smaller truck. But you will not be able to sell that old F150 for very much anyway. A few 100 bucks at most.
So just buy another truck /car that gets great MPG and keep the old f 150 if you want to.

If you do not have money to register, insure and fix the truck, how do you expect to pay for another vehicle and register and insure it?

  • Why do car companies sell in different countries under different names? Why are companies like Chevrolet selling their cars under names like Holden in Australia? I'm not sure if Chevrolet sells in Australia but I do think they do. If they already sell in Australia, what's the point of selling the same thing under Holden? Another example is some Ford cars are sold under Lincoln, and Chevrolet sells the same thing under GMC. Buick and Opel? What's with this?
  • Should I get a new car or keep paying off my current one? I have a 2013 Ford Fusion with about 58,000 miles on it. I commute to work everyday, and my job requires me to travel, so I've really put the miles on. The original loan amount was $25k, and I have about $14k left on it. I was considering buying a different car and trading in my Fusion. Would that be a stupid idea? Should I just pay the car off?
  • Should I buy a Ford Focus Zx3 or should I look for a different car? I'm a male going to college as a sophmore next semester (this car will be my first car). Should I buy a stick or an automatic (I don't know how to drive a stick at the moment, but I'm willing to learn)? What do you think would be more fun? Do you think a ford focus Zx3 is a good car for me or do you have any other car suggestions?
