How long will my truck last?
I have a 2001 ford ranger and it's slipping out of gear. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. I'm thinking the valve body gasket, but I shop I took it too saI'd it would cost about $2500 to fix. What it does is when it tried to go into second gear it'll slip sometimes and go back into first. And when it finally does get into 2nd gear it's usually at a high rpm and jolts the whole vehicle. The check engine light is on and I'm not going to put $2500 into it I'm just gonna drive it until it dies. But I don't know when that will be, any ideas?
Sounds like your transmission is possibly going out no worries yet though pour you a quart Of TransX in transmission it MAY help and it is a temporary fix but its the cheap route bt your trucks life depends On how you take care of it my van is 21 yrs old with 300k miles and original engine and transmission just stay on top of your oil changes and keep up with your preventive maintenance and your truck will take you a long way
If its manual, it could just be that the shifter bushing are worn out and need replaced or the clutch is worn out. Go to different shop and get a second opinion.
there could be pieces of metal in the valve body. There's parts in there that are magnetized and will grab pieces of metal. If that's problem, all you have to do is get the metal pieces out. Do not do a transmission flush.
- Why don't American cars last as long as Japanese cars? My family has owned a Ford Taurus and a Nissan Altima of similar model years. Both cars are still running, but the Taurus has very low mileage (it's a 1999 with only 85,000 miles) and the interior is in horrible condition and the plastics Ford put in have been known for breaking. None of this has happened with the Altima, even though it has more miles. Why?
- How long will a chevy silverado last? Trading in my ford ranger to many problems and issues. Anyways I'm looking at some used silverados they all have over 10000 miles on them. Are they built like toyota tundra and tacoma where they will last forever. In the 90s my mom owned a chevy caviler and a chevy mini van both had the transmission blow quickly and they leaked oil all over the place. Are the trucks like this are they good trucks
- How long, on average, does a 70's Ford ranger F150 transmission last? Thinking about getting this truck. Guy selling it has papers proving he's had work done for the transmission, but that was 15 years ago. Would I need to worry about the transmission being any good because of age? He's asking 2500, says it drives great. No problems under the hood, just cosmetology.
- How long will my 2005 ford Mustang v6 last? I have 81500 miles on it now never replaced anything other then regular maintence such as oil change every 5k and did a tranny fluid change at 75k. I try to keep rpms under 2k I have overdrive on it! And i'm not a speed freak because of gas milegae! About twice a month I'll race someone at a red light! I have a cai, headers, exhaust! I'm thinking I can get around 150k put of it before a major repair any ideas on this?
