2002 ford ranger won't start?

My 2002 Ford ranger 3.0L V6 RWD, won't start. I've been having trouble with it starting the past few months so I put in a new battery about 2 months ago and I just put in a new alternator about 3 weeks ago. Then last night I went out after work to start it and it just clicked and wouldn't start. Now every time I turn my key it doesn't make any noise at all. My dome light turned on when I first got in but after I turned the key I lost the lights. What could be the problem?! Starter? Ignition? I'm not much of an auto guy so i don't know where to start after already replacing my battery and alternator. My hood release cable is also broken so I haven't been able to try jumping it or anything. I've been trying to read up on how to open the hood with a broken release cable. All help is appreciated!

Your on your own for the hood but when you do get it opened clean the battery terminals, the insides of the cable and the outside of the terminal.
