Which would last longer, manual transmission or automatic transmission?
This question is for FORD ENGINEERS, Which would last longer, manual transmission or automatic transmission?
My car is a mustang GT 2013 and it is a 6 speed manual. I'm wordering how long the transmission is going to last. I would like to have hard facts and evidences on why the automatic or manual transmissions would last longer.

I would like to have hard facts and evidences on why the automatic or manual transmissions would last longer. Thank you. It's impossible to say. The automatic used in the 2013 Mustang (the 6R80) doesn't have as long a track record as as a C6 or AOD, and for that matter the manual used in that car (the MT82) doesn't have a long track record either as it came out in 2011 IIRC.
There's more potential for user-induced wear and misuse with the manual. But a manual transmission, when operated correctly will generally outlast an automatic. Hard facts are not needed. If you drive your car hard and abuse it the transmission will fail. I have an 86 ford ranger manual transmission. Same transmission 30 years later! Fords transmissions are trash from the factory Assuming both are maintained properly with recommended transmission oil changes.
Assuming both are driven properly (smoothly and softly, no fast or hard shifts).
Assuming both are driven at similar speeds and RPM's.
The manual transmission will last longer. It is less complex. Less to go wrong. But the difference between the two are very small. It was a larger difference in the 1990's, but automatic transmissions are much better now. However the newer 7, 8, 9 speed automatic transmissions are trash. They are too complex. And the CVT's are getting much better, but still not as reliable as the 4-6 speed automatic transmission or the 5-6 speeds manual transmissions.

- Why do illegal immigrants like to drive Chevrolets, Fords or GMC trucks? Everyone knows that Toyotas last 6 x longer? Except them? Why? btw, anyone noticed this? you don't hardly ever see them driving Toyotas, mostly Chevrolet or GMC trucks
- What is the best transmission in a 1983 to 1994 Ford 6.9/7.3 IDI for towing manual or automatic? I seen a lot of OBS Ford 6.9 and 7.3 IDI towing with manual transmission. Very few tow with automatic transmissions. Which is better for Ford 6.9/7.3 IDI towing manual or automatic?
- Can you get a 2015 ford mustang and Chevy camaro in automatic transmission instead of manual transmission? Hi, I'm thinking about buying a 2015 ford mustang or Chevy camaro. Both of the cars come in manual transmission! Is it possible to get it in automatic transmission instead? Can I just ask the dealer (dealership) to give me the car with automatic transmission or do I have to change it myself?
- Automatic or Manual Transmission? I will be turning 16 soon, and I'm getting a 2002 Ford GT Mustang Deluxe, and I'm stumped on which transmission I should get. I don't know how to drive a stick-shift, but I really want to learn how to. And plus it's cheaper. But it's my first car, so I don't know if I should just go with automatic or what. Any suggestions?
