What makes Ford Mustangs so special from other sports cars? - 1

They are American.
But they are not sports cars. They are muscle cars.

Its FORD

While I'm a self-described Mustang Fanboy, the Mustang isn't necessarily any more "special" from other sports cars. Though the term "sports car" is used rather loosely these days (no Miata, you aren't a sports car), the Mustang defined the "Pony Car" when it was launched in 1964. Pony cars, which include Chevy Camaros and Dodge Challengers tend to be more affordable, highly-styled, performance cars.

They have been so popular that they have been in production for 50 years STRAIGHT… Very few other cars/brands can boast that (and that includes it's main rival/competitor the camaro that was killed off in 2003)

It was the first of the pony cars. When the Mustang came out it was a very influential car. It always has been (I'm going to gloss over the Mustang II). Even in recent times, the Mustang is still the measuring stick, and it's still an influential car, take the 2005 Mustang for example, when that came out, with it's retro styling, GM and Chrysler had to come out with their retro-styled pony cars again as well.

The Mustang has also been a pretty good value for money, you got a fair amount of performance for a reasonable price. Though recently the price delta between the base model and the V8 models has gotten bigger even when you account for inflation. Back in the 80's you get a fox 5.0L for about a 16% price premium over the base 4 cylinder car. Today the V8 commands about a 25% premium over the base V6.

The mystique. It was the first and the original pony car, and it remains surprisingly affordable for the performance it has.

Iconic status and you get a LOT of bang for your buck with a Mustang.

  • How to replace wheel bearings on a 94 ford ranger 2x4 front and back-Any special tool needed? Lot of slop up and down when I shake tire when jacked up, and hums down the road, is this causing the humming
  • Varying ride quality between different makes of cars? I own and drive a 2001 Ford Mustang GT. I frequently however get to drive a 2013 buick lacrosse. I also test drive many other different cars. What I've noticed is this. Fords seem to have a stiffer and bulky drive quality but not in a bad way it has its benefits. GM tends to have a loose smooth and easy feel to them not up tight like the ford. Chrysler has a ride quality thats a mix of the two others. What my question is is why are they so different between manufacturers?
  • I searched on cars.com and found Ford Mustangs with FWD, AWD and 2 wheel drive, are those ads fake? Seriously, there's listings on cars.com with Ford Mustangs and even camaros and challengers that was listed as having AWD or fwd or 2 wheel drive. This makes no sense to me because as Far as I know, these cars only come in RWD! So are these ads false or do these cars actually have the option of changing the drivetrain?
  • Do ford mustangs have tighter steering than other cars? I'm getting a 2000 ford mustang, my other car went and this one is in great shape. The steering is just tighter than any other vehicle I had, is that because it's a performance vehicle or something? It drives fine I just wasn't used to that. I barely even have to turn the wheel to take a turn, it's so sensitive too.
