Strange part by my gas tank making noise?

Hi, I recently bought a 2001 ford mustang and I have a strange part connected to the gas tank that is making noise whenever i start the car. It is connected to the gas tank and rattles against the muffler whenever i start the car and will usually only make the sound if the car is cold or in park. I have no idea what it is but it's like some triangle piece of steel with some bolts in it and doesn't really seem to have any purpose. Was just wanting to see if anybody could tell me what it might possibly be and if i can take it off without doing any damage to my car.

Added (1). Hi, now thinking about it I don't know if I can remember if it's connected to the gas to but I know it was near it. I can't go out and look right now because my wife has it. It was like some triangle piece of steel that was hitting some sort of "ramp" looking thing on the muffler. Lol. I have no idea how to explain it… Thanks.

There was a pollution devise called a charcoal canister back there when it left the factory. It is a federally required pollution devise. Possible it fell off. Best get it up on a lift & see what's what… Don't want some lose piece of steel to punch a hole in the gas tank…

The gas gauge fluctuates between 3/8 and 7/8 somewhat correlating to the amount of gas in my tank but it isn't accurate. What can i do to try and fix this problem?   • My transmission has failed due to a recalled part does Ford have to replace the whole transmission or just the recalled part? I have a 2005 Ford Freestar minivan one night when I was driving home the transmission went out on it while I was on the highway. After doing some research we found that the torque converter is a recalled part on this model. If the torque converter is the reason for the transmission failure does Ford have to replace my whole transmission as well or just the torque converter?
