I'd get a Kia over a Ford any day. Ford is one of the worst manufacturers in the industry.
Kia's have good crash ratings, but the Excursion is twice the size and weight, this isn't really a fair comparison. As Scottie would say, "you can't change the laws of physics". I'd rather drive a Soul, but if I had to sit in one for a crash it would undoubtedly be the Excursion.
Just look at the size of the vehicles! What do you think is going to win in a crash?!

However, when it comes to keeping things from going pear-shaped in the first place, a Kia would be safer. The last Excursion rolled off the assembly line in 2005, before traction control, electronic stability control, anti-roll systems, and other modern safety systems were commonplace. Also, it's a very heavy vehicle, so handling and braking will be poor. Frankly, you are more likely to be in a wreck in the first place in an Excursion. Your question assumes the crash will happen. In a crash, the Excursion would be safer.
However, if you take the word "crash" out of your question, and ask which vehicle is safer, a modern Kia with stability control wins hands down. Crashes are not inevitable. The safest crash is the one you avoid being in.
Well they are both relatively safe for their size. The Soul is compact and safe for a typical car crash. The Excursion is massive. It's also older so won't have as many airbags and safety features of today's cars. But you'll probably be safer in a crash still in the Excursion because of the size and weight
DEFINITELY the Excursion. It's a no-brainer. Those things are massive. If safety features (seat belts and air bags) are the same, you want to always be in the larger, heavier vehicle.
