Will my car have frame damage?

So, I JUST got a used 2013 Ford Focus SE (Hatchback) and the next day on my way to work I got rear-ended!
It was on the I-5 freeway, traffic came to a sudden stop, I was at a complete stop and then BAM, a Chevy Impala slammed in the back of me going about 40mph (is what the guy said) his airbag deployed and the front of his car was completely smashed. My back door closes a little funny now, it makes a weird sound when it latches but other than that everything is doing fine. I'm just curious to know if my car would have frame damage or not?
(I know pictures are probably helpful but I'm not sure if I can upload any on here.)

We're not going to be able to tell from a single photo. You'll need the car inspected by a mechanic or at least your auto insurance adjuster. They'll know what to look for.

However, the fact that the door isn't closing properly anymore is a good indication that the car has suffered some frame damage.

You have a unibody - not a frame. If a back door is closing differently after the crash, the entire structure of the car has been distorted… You could look forward to problems with rear wheel allignment in the future, and possibly mechanical problems due to the jolt.

If at all possible, you should seek full restitution for what you paid for the car… Not a cosmetic repair of visible damage. If you financed your purchase, you should tell the lender and enlist their aid in having the car "totaled": they have an interest in the value of the car which is now less than it was when they approved the loan.

Hi the fact the rear door is difficult to close does suggest frame damage. So take it to a ford dealer for a chassis check.

It doesn't have a frame or chassis, however the problem with the door does indicate a warped unibody. It may or may not be possible to straighten it out, refer to your insurers for instructions about what to do.

No car can withstand an impact above 30 without structural damage. They are designed to crumple… If your car had been a European standard it would have left the scene on the back of a lorry… But American cars have extra reinforced bumpers… It may not look too bad. But it will be serious… Here our cars crumple and the force is absorbed by the car… Less injuries… You have 5 times the drivers in the states. As such. For a comparison and remember you drive much slower than us… On average circa 5 die a day in uk… X5 that should be 30 in the states… Actually its 94… Cars built too rigid

The only way is to get a body shop to examine it and give a quote for repairs.
Get your insurance to handle it and claim off the other driver.

Your car doesn't HAVE a frame. It's toast. S*** can it.

  • Will I have issues with frame twisting with this setup? 1978 Datsun 280z, LS2/T56 swap from an '05 Pontiac GTO, stroked to 427 ci, forged bottom end, heads/cam/intake, approx. 550rwhp, Ford 9" rear end, 4.10 gears, 10 inch width wheels running 275mm tires, 8 point roll cage. Looking to be able to launch a decent wheelie on drag slicks and not twist the rust free frame.
  • Is the 2013 ford mustang a unibody or frame body? I crashed my 2013 Ford Mustang GT/CS and i'm just curious if its going to be totaled. One the airbags went off and also the whole front of the car crumpled up… But the big medal frame is still good… One of the guys that picked up the car said it will probably be repairable due to the frame or unibody being intact… I want to know if its a unibody or frame built.
  • Ford F100 frame strength? I was wondering if my 1970 f100 could handle around 500ft lbs of torque or do I have to box the frame?
  • How safe is it to drive a car with a seriously rusted sub frame/frame? I have a 2003 ford focus. I recently brought it in because my power steering fluid was leaking. When the guy called me back he told me my sub frame was extremely rusted, so is my frame. This all happen the first day I started my new job in which i need to drive 20mins to get too. So my question is how safe is it to drive a car that has a rotted sub frame? This new job is only 1 or 2 days a week. I attached some pictures that I tried to take from under my car.
