How long will my car drive after jump starting?
My car, ford focus 2004 1.6, has for 2 days now not turned on. When attempted to, it makes ticking sounds. Radio still works everything just not turning on. Themiles per hour stick keeps ticking too.
Push starting works but needs done everytime as it doesn't turn on again. How long will the car drive if jump started with leads?
2 weeks ago I had the same problem and jump started it and it lasted 2 weeks.
Taking it to garage on Saturday. But for now, will jump starting work and how long for?
Impossible to say without knowing why it is going flat. If the alternator is not charging or can't charge the battery at all as the battery is past redemption then it may last a few yards. Jump starting puts little or no charge into a car battery.
may have lasted 2 weeks a while ago but since the problem may have got worse meaning it will last a far shorter time
Jump starting just works to get the car home or to a repair shop. A dead battery rarely charges much just by driving the vehicle. You would need to go 100 miles with the rpms over 2,500 rpm to have any chance of the car starting again in cold weather. A mechanic needs to charge the battery 6 hours with a battery charger set to 12 volts.10 amps before being able to test it properly.
Tried to jump start and it works. As soon as I turn it of it ticks. Doesn't work again. Taking it to garage on Saturday to see. Will charge it tonight and see how it goes.
- Ford Ranger 4.0, 172,000 miles rough idle when starting after sitting overnight or after 2-3 hours. Starts 1st crank, idles rough 1 minute? Or so and then smooths out and runs fine. New heads and gaskets. Cleaned MAF sensor, throttle body and air intake sensor, new IAC valve, new air and fuel filters, new PCV valve. No smoke coming from exhaust and No check engine light. Any ideas what's causing this rough idle?
- Can I drive an older car long distance? I'm planning on buying an older car, either a 1984 Monte Carlo, 1999 Cadillac Eldorado, or a 2000 Ford Ranger and drive either one to Fort Polk from Miami since I'm PCSing there in a month. I was wondering is it a good idea to drive an older vehicle that far even if it is well maintained? Also how hard would it be to find parts and fix a classic car like the Monte Carlo?
- 1997 Ford Ranger 4.0 V6 won't shift into drive after being driven. Takes longer than should to shift into drive when first started? It will go in reverse fine. First thing in the morning when I leave for work, it will shift into drive on it's own, but takes a bit longer than it should. After getting it warm, won't shift into drive at all. I can shift down to 1st or 2nd, then back into drive and it will "pop up" into drive within a second or 2. I also have a ODB2 error P1744 (Torque Converter circuit).
- How long can I drive my car for after battery light came on? I have a 2001 ford ka and earlier today the battery light on the dashboard came on, I googled what it is and think it's the alternator. I'm getting it serviced next Wednesday but need to make a 40 minute journey tomorrow but not sure whether to risk it or not?
