How well a vehicle does in the snow really comes down to 2 things:
the tires and the vehicle clearance.
You can't do much about the vehicle height or clearance but you can do a lot about the only thing on the vehicle that actually touches the road… The tires. Equip the vehicle with a full set of good quality winter tires and the vehicle will do a lot better compared to if it is riding on a set of summer or all-season tires.
If you get a lot of snow a 4x4 would be preferable. You could fit snow tires to a Focus, but that still wouldn't be as good as all wheel drive. See the list.
