Ford focus roll back issue?

I took my focus into the dealership (its an automatic) because of dangerous roll back on hills (between 6-10 feet). I was told that it is Normal for the car to roll back and they sent me away. I have had the car a year and have had several instances where the car nearly rolls into the car behind me. Would I be at fault in an accident? Could I sue ford if i'm found to be at fault? I'm really worried about rolling into another car.

Added (1). the car rolls back in drive.

Added (2). the car rolls back usually when i'm at a stop and begin to accelerate. I give the car gas but the transmission won't engage. I usually end up peeling out when the transmission finally grabs. I have had 5 automatic cars and i've never had this happen before. Even modern standard transmissions are made with an anti roll back feature.

Added (3). To all you people suggesting holding my brake with one foot and the gas with another, my grandmother actually failed the drivers test because they said you can't drive an automatic with two feet. And as i said, even manual cars don't roll back anymore.

It's not normal for a car to roll back if it's in park. Take it to a different dealer.

You don't say under what conditions it rolls back. If it's while you are stopped and in the process of starting again then that's because of the way you handle the car. If you release the brake before giving it gas it isn't unusual for it to roll back. Ease down on the gas as you release the brake pedal. If it's happening when it's in PARK then the parking sprag in the transmission is broken.

If you have a newer Focus (2010 or newer) then your transmission isn't an automatic per se. It's an dual clutch automated manual. It's not the same as a traditional automatic transmission. When you stop, the car is basically in neutral, the automated clutch is disengaged, when you step on the gas to move again, the transmission puts the car into 1st and releases the clutch (this is done in a matter of hundredths of a second), and the car moves forward.

What you are experiencing is normal for the type of transmission your car has.

" would I be at fault in an accident?"

Probably

"I sue ford if i'm found to be at fault?"

You could try, but you'd lose, because you're suppose to keep your foot on the brake when stopped at a traffic light anyway. And they could always just cite the many people who drive cars with manual transmissions who manage to not roll backwards.

" i give the car gas but the transmission won't engage. I usually end up peeling out when the transmission finally grabs."

You might want to see if there's a software update for your transmission. What you're describing is a common complaint about the transmission you have.

Edit: "because they said you can't drive an automatic with two feet. And as i said, even manual cars don't roll back anymore."

1. They aren't in the car with you

2. As I described above, your car has an dual-clutch automated manual, not an automatic (there's a significant difference).

3. Comparatively few manual cars have a "hill holder" feature.

I'm not trying to be rude, but you really should educate yourself about your own car. Google "Ford Powershift Transmission" and you find that what you are experiencing is par for the course.

Every car I ever owned rolls back a bit on a steep hill including my 2004 Focus. To prevent this, I hold the brake pedal down with my left food and have my right foot resting on the accelerator. When the light changes green, I start to apply some gas just before I release the brake and I get no roll back.

Cars with a manual transmission are even worse for this.

Also, when you stop behind another car on a hill, never pull up as close as you would on a level road in case of roll back. Especially trucks.

If in doubt there are lots of Ford dealers, try a different one.

Typical Ford. I had a mondeò what a load of rubbish. The car was automatic and would change down a gear or 2 for no apparent reason. I took it to the dales hip for them to fix, they had the car for 2 days. When I went to collect the car they had not done the work. The guy behind the deal said "we have given the car a health check" I said you lot need a health check. I scrapped the car and went and got a Honda accord 7 years ago and this is automatic and I've never had a problem

I have a 2015 Ford Focus, i bought it brand new of the lot, it has had 4 recalls on it. One main recall was the transition, all of a sudden it started to roll backward, when at a red light, it would roll backwards, just a little bit. Then it was like it fell into gear and stop now I'm rolling backwards about a car length, and it wont catch on to nothing to stop it like it used to, it seams to be getting worse,
