What are some good first cars?

I'm 16 and male (will be 17 in October). I'm looking at what car i could get for a first car. My price is Max: £2000 (i'm british)
Anything under that would be even better.
Engine size can be 1.2L or less due to insurance.
I don't want a Corsa btw
Any suggestions on what cars?
Cars i've found so far:

Fiat Punto MK2
Ford Fiesta (The box shaped one)
Seat Leon?
Renault Clio

Steer clear quite literally of Punto's. I work in a garage and an awful lot of them come in with problems overheating, rocky idling and rust… I test drove one the other day which had a bas transmission leak and overheated so I wouldn't have one of them… Fiestas and KA's are okay, cheap to run and buy especially if you get the model with the ancient 1.3 OHV engine. The 1.3 is considerably more reliable even if a little noisy as well from personal experience in the shop as they don't use a cambelt but a chain. I drive a 1.3 Fiesta, 80k and runs like a dream. Up until the MK6 Fiesta second half of 2002 I think, the Fiesta can rot quite bad as the bodies weren't galvanized so look on the floorpan, arches and sills. Same as with the KA. Seat Leon also good cars, owned by VW so quality is top notch. Have a look at some of the VW polo's and older Golf's aswell, they hold their value well and go on for miles. I wouldn't have a Clio, seen and heard too many horror stories. Renault seem to have a reputation of electrical faults from personal experience despite their safety record. Citroen Saxo and Peugeot 106 are both good cars as well, quite nippy and very light. Don't come with a lot of kit but are good for first time drivers just look for an non abused example. Most of them I've come across have been reliable little motors, but some are neglected and thus aren't too good… For £2000 you could have a really good example MK5 Fiesta, and probably a slightly higher mileage VW equivalent. Hope that helps!

The 1.2 vauxhall astra for build quality…
Ford unrealible trust me I have one, renault mmm well its a renault enough said, seat unrealible and fiat very shoddy build quality… Also look at vw polo but they tend to hold there value and would prob struggle to find one under 2000

best of luck my friend

Just stick to a smallish engine, older car, and that will keep your insurance lower
My son had an Astra as his first car, my other son had a Peugeot, some also like the Ford Ka

I would go with the Ford out of those. However, have you looked at Hondas? I doubt any of those can match a Honda for quality.

Citroen Saxo or Peugot 206 are cheap to run don't cause many problems, unless they have 90k+ miles on them. Mitsubishi Colt 1.3 is a decent machine. Many of the better looking Japanese cars are in bigger engine sizes. The Fiesta is ok, the KA looks ugly could never drive one of those. 2k won't buy you a decent VW, the engines are great but electrics and transmission aren't that good.

  • What are some of your favorite (unpopular) classic cars? For example, Everyone loves a 1969 Camaro SS or a '57 BelAir, or even a 1979 Trans Am. But what about a 1954 Hudson Hornet, or a 1934 duesenberg? Or even a 1934 Ford with a 1000
  • What are some good first cars? - 1 I'm 16 and I want to get a car. I want something unique. Something when someone I know sees it going down the street, they'll know it's me. Here's some cars I was thinking of. -1988 Merkur XR4Ti -1991 Ford Crown Victoria Country Squire -1994 Mazda Navajo -2002 Lincoln Blackwood Which one should I get? What other unique cars should I look at?
  • What are some current TV reality shows in the United States that restores classic cars that? Are accepting cars for restorations? Like Overhaulin, which is not accepting cars at this time. I want to surprise my husband somehow to get his 54 Ford finished for him and I can't do it on my own. Please include links if you can.
  • Why are some Ford cars (like the Taurus and Focus) such unreliable cars? I'm looking at cars in the $3000 - $4500 range and I'm noticing a decent amount of Ford Taurus's and Focus's and out of all the cars that I see, these are two cars that just seem so unreliable. I test drove a Focus last year and it sounded like something was wrong with the engine.
