1 - it is 12 years old and was designed to last 10 years
2 - its a 2002 model year version made when cars are nowhere nearly as good on fuel economy as current ones are
3 - it was rated at 43 mpg by laboratory style tests used for comparison only - in reality when new and in perfect condition it probably managed around 37 to 38 mpg. After many miles, years and unknown servicing it will not do that now

Also, are there any common problems that a possible buyer should be aware of? Any other interesting/relevant info regarding the car would be great too.

However the rpm needle thingy is not moving. when i'm in drive the car acclerates on its own with the speed ever increasing. i did some googling and learned that it can be the TPS sensor or the idle air intake valve, among a million other possiblities.
