What is the DOWNSIDE of buying & owning, that new FORD F-150 ALUMINUM PICKUP TRUCK?

There's no downside other than paying a huge price for a new truck. Wait about 1 year and buy a used one and save plenty.

A new car payment

All the usual F-150 downsides plus more expensive body repairs.

Just to replace one tail light on the truck cost over $800

This truck will besomething you have to take extreme care of. I'm guessing a rear end will cost a fortune and ford rear ends tend to fall apart… Then again every truck brand has fallbacks. If youre smart with it the truck will last. My dads f150 triton has 540,000km on it and its original engine and trans, but weve been through like 4 rear ends. Good thing we can fix our own stuff.

It remains to be seen. I notice that new GM/Chebie commercials have a subtle reference to "strong, steel construction". Let us assume that Ford did not design their new trucks to be fragile… But no doubt that repairs will be more troublesome for a while until shops know how to treat aluminum. Main thing is will more mpg make the Fords more desirable? Early tests in magazines don't show that great an mpg advantage over competitive makes despite the weight advantage: but those same magazines named the Vega as Car of the Year and thought we should all buy Pontiac Tempests and Aztecs.

It costs TWICE as much to repair the body than a truck made of steel.

  • Negative consequences of owning two cars simultaneously? (UK)? I'm wondering with a large amount of disposable income, what the the disadvantages of owning two cars at the same time. The two cars I was looking at was a Ford Fiesta ST and a BMW 330D. They are both second hand vehicles with 40-60k miles on them (as I really dislike depreciation on vehicles when bought new). I understand you'll have to insure two vehicles and pay tax etc. Both cars would cost roughly £25,000 combined to buy.
  • Is leasing a truck a better than buying a truck? Due to high maintenance costs and reliability issues is leasing better when you want to own a truck? Chevy Silverado Crew Cab 1500 $289 a month lease Dodge Ram Big Horn - $310 a month lease Ford F-150 - $299 a month lease
