2001 F-150 5.4l Lack of Power?
I have a 2001 Ford F-150 SuperCrew Lariat 4x4 with the 5.4l Triton engine. I purchased it at the beginning of August, coming pre-installed with a 6" suspension lift kit on 35" tires with everything else being stock. From the first time I drove it, I could tell that the truck had very little power. I have since replaced my fuel filter, oil filter and oil (full synthetic), cleaned and treated the K&N Hi-Flo air filter, replaced all 8 spark plugs and coil packs, and flushed the transmission and installed a new filter. After doing the plugs and coil packs, I noticed a slight improvement in power. However, it still does not feel satisfactory. Whenever the vehicle is in neutral or park and I attempt to rev it, it bogs down and will then rev. In drive, there's no delay of acceleration. Starting is not always optimal, sometimes taking two or three tries to get it to fire up. When I first bought it, the service engine soon light was on, and an OBD II reader indicated it was PO171 and PO174, banks 1 and 2. Since that time, the codes have been reset, however, AutoZone employees are suggesting that the MAF sensor could be causing the issue. I have cleaned the sensor with the pressurized cleaner. Is there anything else that anyone can recommend to draw more power out of my truck? This will be eventually used for towing 2 boats each weighing approximately 4500 lbs, and occasionally an equipment trailer with a front end loader and zero turn mower, weighing approximately 6500. Power needed!
It's 14 years old and has 300 lb tires/wheels on it, and probably over 100K miles on it, right? It is just tired and was probably abused before you got it.
Is it still having the rev issue? Sounds like the MAF… Did you clean the tube also? My 5.0 mustang did the same thing. Otherwise with the poor starting clue it might be the ignition, which could cause that and low power (if the starter is otherwise healthy).
A 5.4 triton should have stump pulling torque down low and good 'gitty up'.
Hi so here are the facts of life hate them i know but facts are facts it is a 14 year old truck which will have been used and abused and why you needed to fit all those parts. So it is already a money pit. What you have to understand it has a lot of engine wear as well. So the lack of power is the what you have. Old engines and very worn engines loose power. This is why we buy new trucks.
- 2001 Ford Taurus power steering fluid leak? My husband bought a new power steering pump and installed it last week, but when he added the power steering fluid it leaked out almost immediately. Any idea of what would cause this?
- 2001 Ford Taurus, 156k miles. Today started missing and skipping, low to no power? Idles smooth, takes off slow. Sluggish going up hill, but will go faster down hill. Push down on the gas- little change. Ck engine light is on of course. Any idea what it could be?
- Power windows and power door locks not working on my ford ranger? I have a 2000 ford ranger lte and the power windows, door locks, and power mirrors are not working… Where is the fuse? Are they all on the same fuse? What do you think I need to check?
- 2006 Ford Ranger, lack of power and rough idling, what could be the problem? I have a 2006 Ford Ranger manual 4 x 4 sport, with 160,000 km (100,000 miles) that I bought back in August. It ran well until today. On my way to work, I drove a few blocks when I noticed when I accelerated there was little power, and it was idling rough. I drove it back home and noticed there was this black soot coming out of the exhaust. I can't have it seen until the 2nd, so I'm just looking for any insight on what the problem can be.
