I have a 2004 ford explorer XLT. I'm unable to get the car out of park. My break lights do work?

I'm at an incline with rear facimg downwards. I've located the break shift interlock slot but not exactly sure how to override it. And yes I do have my foot on the break when switching.

Push the pin or detent with credit card while wiggling the shifter.

Did you use the parking brake? Fords are known to be hard to get out of park when there's a load against the parking pawl such as being on an incline. If using the bypass doesn't get it you will need to have someone or a tow truck pull you just enough to take the strain off the transmission.Next time when parking on an incline with your foot on the brake and your vehicle in neutral set the parking brake then release your foot then place in park. When you are ready to go then put it in drive before releasing the parking brake

P.m.k. Got this one right, but for today, either rock the vehicle forward and back while pulling the shifter, or jack up the rear axle and spin the tire.
