How to check fuel pressure on a 2001 ford explorer sport?

First you need a fuel pressure gauge. Locate the fuel port on your fuel rail. This will be the rail that feeds fuel to your injectors. You should find a little port and that is where you screw on your fuel gauge. Find out what fuel pressure readings you should have with just the key turned to the on position but the engine not running. After your fuel pressure comes up, shut the key off and see how long the fuel pressure stays up. Watch for any pressure to bleed off and record the rate. After you have done this you will do the engine running test. First make sure you have bled off all pressure in the gauge and release any loose fuel into a bowl or rag. Now turn the key to the on position, record the fuel pressure, then start the engine and let it idle. Now record what fuel pressure PSI you have with the engine running. Does the fuel pressure drop really low when the engine is running and the truck stumbles? Is the pressure too high? Give these numbers to your local dealership or even post them on here and someone can probably help you out.
