Ford Explorer for a first car?
Well i'll be turning 17 on April 4th, So i'm looking into getting a car on it. I had a 2008 Pontiac G6 but my brother wrecked it. So i have been driving an suv for a while so don't tell me about roll over rates and all that stuff. I've been driving a top heavy vehicle since June 2014 so i believe i can handle it with ten months of driving on my own. So i want another SUV and i'm thinking 2006 Ford Explorer. This one has had the transmission replaced and has lower miles would it be a good first (kind of first but not really) vehicle?
I had a explorer for about 2 years before it was totaled. But I loved that vehicle! It was my first vehicle also. While I loved it, it had a few problems. A issue on the explorers is the power windows. I had a 2004 so i don't know if they fixed this for the 2006 or not but I had 3 windows that stopped working. Each was only about 200 to fix. But I cantell you that it is a good car and good space. I had a sub system in it. Replaced stereo. New speakers. The whole package
The bigger the vehicle the better. The chances of a young driver getting into an accident are pretty high so you want as much metal around you as you can get. Go with the biggest, heaviest car you can afford.
Sorry but Consumer Reports has most models of used Explorers on its "Used Cars to Avoid" list, based on thousands of surveys of actual owners. If you want to research this for yourself, find the April 2014 issue of CR (their annual Auto Issue) in your local library. The new 2015 issue will be on sale in about a month.
When you become a bit older than 17 years old, you'll realize that having only 10 months of driving on your own gives you only about 10% of the experience you need to be a good skilled driver, especially handling a top-heavy vehicle in an emergency situation. Of course, you don't realize that now.
- What car should I get for my first car? I'm 16 and about to buy my first car. I'm thinking about getting a 94 Ford Ranger (120k miles) with lifted suspension, off road tires, and a prerunner bumper. Would this be a reliable car throughout my high school years? Should I get that or should I just get a 2 door coupe?

- Which car should I get as a first car? Ford fusion 06 or 07 model? Or chevy avalanche 2002 z71. And last Mazda 6 04, 05 & 07. The newer the higher the price for each model(not by much). I'm a fan of each car and model style, so really want to know which last longer, cheaper maintenance and good car for a college boy.
