What causes Ford Expedition to jerk while accelerating?
I have an 07 Ford Expedition that jerks when you push the accelerator about half way down. You can push the accelerator down further and it usually stops. At first, I thought it felt like the transmission was having trouble getting into the right gear. So I had that checked out and was told that the tranny was fine. Next I tried replacing the fuel filter, but it still jerks. I had a mechanic run the codes and found nothing. Any ideas what it might be? It doesn't seem to matter what speed the car is at. It's more tied to the position of the accelerator pedal.
My guess is dirty fuel injectors if it is a fuel-injected engine.
Try this: Where the accelerator pedal cable hooks to the throttle body, unhook the cable. Then cycle the throttle body open & closed & see it the 'catch' is in the throttle body. If it is, have it cleaned. IF the throttle body cycles smoothly, then cycle the accelerator pedal, still unhooked, & see if the cable works smoothly.
There could be seventeen different reasons that combine with a few makes for hundreds of possible conditions. People go to automotive technical schools to get certified as mechanics. Go find one or two. As to why is a 16y year old kid driving a Ford Expedition, well, that is another story. Dude, you must be blowing big bucks each week on fuel, specially now that vehicle is not running correctly. Why?
