Is 100k miles on a SUV a lot?

I'm looking at potential used vehicles. I have narrowed my search down to a Ford Expedition and an Infiniti QX56. Both have everything I'm looking for in a future car (fully loaded, seats 7-8 for my big family, safe). The Ford has 78k while the Infiniti has 101K. They are both basically the same price and one model year apart (ford being a 2010/Infiniti 2009). I'm just curious if more mileage necessarily means worse? They are (in my opinion) good, reputable vehicles that keep their value. I'm looking for something to drive for possibly the next 4 years. Should I just go with something with a little less mileage? My husband says mileage isn't always bad if they maintained it well. I just don't want my 2nd car purchase to be a dud!

The Ford 5.0 is a solid engine, I have run a few well over 300k, currently I'm driving my 88 F-250 with a 5.0, 404,000 miles on it.

If the Explorer has a 5.0 with 100k you can assume it will run for quite a while.

Hi well apart from what tony has suggest a car with less mileage would be a far better idea.

Don't buy a ford they have an anti pats system which can cost a lot to fix they also are expensive to repair.by a gm model.

The ford is a far better truck and it will be worth more for longer

Have a good mechanic look at them before you buy one.

Not really but check the history http://myvinalert.com

Any car no matter what will run great as long as it was taken care of and all cars have issues, no company is better than another.

My daily driver has nearly 300,000 miles and it is a *gasp* SAAB (the one everybody always says is unreliable)

  • Is getting a lot of miles on a car actually bad for the car if the car is well taken care of? Back story: I have been using my car to visit a guy who lives about an hour away from me, and my mother has said that I "don't need to be putting all those miles" on my car. It is a well-taken care of Ford mustang with about 125,000 miles on it, and I have not noticed any issues at all. Cars are meant to be driven, in my mind. Is putting mileage on a care actually a bad thing, or is mother probably pulling an overprotective mother of an adult child?
  • 2006 Ford Focus with 147k miles or 2005 Hyundai Elantra with 100k miles? Looking for a car for a student, I've received 2 offers, a 2006 Ford Focus for $4000 cash or a 2005 Hyundai Elantra for $4900 with $2000 down and the rest financed. Which would be a better deal? Go with the payment plan or scrap up all my cash? Both cars have been well maintained but can someone who knows cars tell me which would last longer?
  • Is 43,000 miles a lot for a 2011 Ford Fiesta SE? I'm looking into buying a used 2011 Ford Fiesta SE but don't know if 43,000 miles is a lot for it or not? How long will this car last me? Also is 9,980 a fair price for it?
