Price of a Fuel Injector for my car?

I drive a 2001 Ford Escape XLT V6 2WD and about a week ago it started making a weird ticking noise that I knew wasn't good. So I took it in to Auto Zone for a diagnostic and one of the problems was a fuel injection problem. Now, my car is at 205,500 miles and it's not worth a new tranny, engine, etc. Which was why I worried about the fuel injection problem. Because I was told that a new one would cost hundreds to a couple thousand dollars. But I went on the Auto Zone web site, specified what car I drive and clicked on fuel injection and it says that a new fuel injector part for my car would only cost me about $35 and an extra $20 for a new fuel line. Is that true? Is it just because my car is from 2001 and isn't a 2015 Mustang (Or any new car)? I can't afford a new one if it's $1,000. But if it really does cost only $35-50 I can order it.

A fuel injector is $25 to $30 for your vehicle.

The Auto Zone diagnostic is just reading OBDII codes and should not be considered a professional diagnosis. The greatest limitation is that the codes only report conditions, not causes. The overwhelming majority of fuel injection codes are not caused by fuel injectors, EGR codes are almost never caused by a bad EGR valve, and codes that mention O2 sensors are almost never caused by bad O2 sensors.

You will be money ahead to have a mechanic diagnose the problem before you spend money on what the problem probably is not.

  • Location of 1998 Ford Taurus fuel pump. Does it have a fuel cut-off switch? Car shut down suddenyl without warning. New battery and cranks but will not start. Suspect bad fuel filter, 130K miles and fuel filter has never been replaced.
  • My 1999 ford ranger has 20 lbs of pressure on the fuel line. Do i need a fuel pump? After I tested the pressure and shut the motor off the pressure went down to 0 quick. When I just turn the key I don't get any pressure
  • How to negotiate on a new car and how low can you price the car? I'm trying to buy a brand new 2014 car and these are my options. Ford Mustang I've seen it priced as low as 17,500 Chevy Mustang 18,300. Volkswagen Passat 16,700. How do I go about negotiating and what how much do you think I can get any of these cars for priced at the lowest.
  • Fair price for a fuel pump replacement? I had to tow my car to a shop for the first time ( i've never taken my car to a mechanic in my town before). They told me my fuel pump needed to be replaced, and that it would cost $581 parts and labor, on top of a $109 diagnostic fee. Is this a fair price? Basically I want to know if this is a good shop to continue to take my car to as I do not have a regular mechanic. My vehicle is a 2001 Ford mustang base model V6 3.8L, which unfortunately has a full tank of gas.
