My cars motor already broke down 6months into buying it. Not even half way done paying it?

I'm a college student who is super tight for money. But I live in Co so I knew I had to buy a good car for the snow. So I bought a 2004 Ford Escape. I used it rarely, just to drive to school which is about 10min away. Or to see my parents which live 30min away. I took good care of it with oil changes and all of the basic maintenance since my brother & father are both mechanics. They inspected the car before we bought it & it all seemed swell. I was driving to my apt, one day and it just completely stopped. I took it to the dealership where I got it and they said I need a new motor… Which is ridiculous to me… Because they said they can't do anything at all to help… Is this seriously my situation? Like there's nothing I can do about this? Other than May for it myself somehow?! I appreciate your comments.

Other than pay* for it myself

You should have had it checked out prior to buying it. And/or you tore it up.

You don't have to drive it, just pay for it.

6 months after buying a used car you have no recourse. Seriously, what do you expect a dealer to do after you had the car for 6 months?

Sorry, but with used cars it's always "buyer beware". If it was sold without warranty, there's not much you can do about the dealer other than hire a lawyer to sue under the "lemon laws" and provide proof of proper maintenance and low miles driven.

Unless you're sure the engine is junk get a second opinion. You're going to pay for it yourself either way

Well you bought a 10 year old car. A ford. Mostly worn out. Go to the car talk site and look for a trusted mechanic in your area. At the worst a used engine will get you going but it may be fixable.
