Is it worth it to replace engine?
I have a 2005 ford escape in need of a new engine. The body is in great shape but since it's a 10 year old car I'm wondering if it's worth it or it will cause more problems. Any information helps I appreciate it!
It may be better to trade it in. Do the math.
Those are the cars I like to buy!
I look for 10 year old cars with bad motors and buy them dirt cheap, then put used motors in them and either drive or sell them. My latest is an 04 SUV that is worth (blue book) 3 times what I have spent on it. That is my family car.
The question really isn't what is the car worth if I repair it, but what will I have to spend to replace it? I also own one car (actually a Geo Metro) that I have spent twice as much repairing over the years than I paid for it, but due to gas mileage it has saved me more than that amount combined! That was a $300.00 purchase which has really been a wonderful investment. It will reach 500,000 miles sometime in mid 2016, and I will keep it running as long as parts can be found. I could buy a Smart Car, or other gas saver but not for what I spend on this one! There's the answer to your question.
