Can you tow a pop up camper with a 2014 ford escape that does not have the tow package?

I bought it brand new it is a "S" model. So it does not come with the towing package. I recently installed a hitch receiver and my wife wants a pop up camper. My only question is weather i can tow a pop up camper or not. Please no troll posts

There are campers that you can tow with a small truck or SUV. Refer to your owner's manual for towing capacities (this will depend on engine/transmission options). Obviously, since your Escape didn't come with the towing package, you will have to have a hitch and wiring installed.

Your 2014 should be the same specs as a new one - you can tow up to 1500 lbs. I doubt you'll find a pop up that light, so probably not, but check. Do not go over the manufacturers recommendations.

If it's brand new, I'm sure the owner's manual came with it. Open it up and READ it. It will tell you if you safely can or not.

It depends upon the weight of the camper. Back in the 1980's I occasionally towed a 1000 lb pop up camper with a 1983 Subaru wagon and its 1.8L which had a carburettor, not fuel injection, only had 73 hp. It was only rated to tow 1000 lbs. One time towing it in a heavy downpour there was so much water on the highway that the front wheels started to spin and I had to use 4WD (engaged with a lever, not full time).
