Bought a recalled vehicle, now what?

I recently purchased a used 2010 ford escape from a FORD dealership with a warranty. Come to find out the vehicle has been recalled due to a power steering issue. I did see the carfax and the vehicle has had no previous accidents or anything like that. I've never purchased a vehicle from a lot before and am unsure of what is to come. I'm going to drop it off in a few days. What should I expect?

With or without warranty a recall gets the problem fixed for free - expect to fix it hand you the keys and say thank you daniel, we're sorry for the inconvenience, have a nice day.

Recalled means there's a repair to the power steering that needs to be made at the expense of ford. Not a bad thing happens all the time. Just take it to a ford dealer and have them run the VIN #.

You should expect to drop the car off at the dealer in the morning, and pick it up later with the suspect part replaced.

Nothing else you need to do.

They will repair it for no charge but there's a good chance it's already been repaired.

A recall is nothing to worry about. It merely means that you have a vehicle with a part that has been found to have the potential to fail. Nothing more. When you take it in, they will repair it, free of charge. There's nothing else you need to do. You have nothing at all to worry about…

A recall is fixed at the manufacturers expense regardless of whether the vehicle is still under warranty or not.

Now if you just bought this car from a Ford dealer, there's a chance that the recall was already done ( unless it was announced after you took possession ). But if it wasn't, you just need to drop off the car for your appointment and either you can wait for the vehicle to be finished or just do whatever it is you do during the day and the service adviser will call you when the job has been completed.

Recalls are paid for by manufacture so you don't need to pay for anything. You just drop off the car at the dealership, service manager checks you in, wait for the service to be performed(usually in and out within 30-45 minutes if you have an appointment and it's just a software update). If it's an actual part they need to replace they will usually give you a loaner(some dealers don't. Solely depends on the individual dealership).

When the work is done you go to the cashier counter and sign a paper saying the work has been done at no cost etc. Then you get your keys and you are on your way(my car has seen 3 recalls)

Expect the Ford dealer to fix it at no charge to you. It's no big deal.

Recalls repairs are free. Just head to the nearest Ford dealer. The parts needed to do the repair may be on back order though.

The Ford dealership should have fixed the recall issue. How do you know it hasn't been fixed already? If it's been fixed, there's nothing to be concerned about.
